BIO: Alex Jago is the creator of Self Love Social Club & The Cocoon Project, creating a positive online space, workshops and events for young girls and women. She is passionate about changing people’s perspectives on themselves, life and does so through her writing and speaking. The 22-year-old has big dreams and when she isn’t trying to change the world, she can be found painting, practicing yoga, on the beach or in her little shack cooking up a storm.
What do you do?
Ahahah ummm WELLL.. I do a lot of things but also nothing at the same time?
I run Self Love Social Club and The Cocoon Project ( conscious online spaces and workshops for young girls and women), I just finished my degree in marketing, do a bit of modelling here and there and also in my final weeks of yoga teacher training! I do some intuitive colour work and coaching with some people andddd I also have an internship program that gives girls around the world a platform and purpose to share their stories and creativity… so they help me out and I hopefully guide them in some way haha.
But really..I don’t even have a job.. my job is that I literally sit around manifesting my next payment, however that decides to come through haha.
What is your background?
I grew up in a small country town in VIC.. Am I even old enough to have a background? haha… I moved to the coast about 4 years ago and Ive just been at Uni and figuring out who I am for a while.
Tell us a little about what you are working on right now:
Soo.. I’m working on creating 3 membership platforms for my business.
Self Love Social Club: a space for girls and women, all about health and wellness, self care, self love and inspiration, motivation, creativity and community.
Imaginary Friends: A space dedicated to all stuff consciousness, sustainability, creativity, power of giving, energy of the masculine & feminine.. I’m not even sure myself yet but I know its going to be epic!
And a third one which is all about the energetics of food and movement.. To help those who have poor relationships with health and wellness (been there…still am some days!).
Its all about treating food as conscious and kind of taking a more intuitive approach to the whole thing. It’s really cool concept and I think its the new way of arse-kicking we have been looking for hehe.
What inspired this idea?
Ahh lord. Well I just had a really shit time as a teenager.. just the usual stuff. Alot of anxiety, negativity and self esteem problems. And so ‘The Cocoon Project’ came from that and I am not really sure about the rest. I say it in my Facebook videos a lot but I believe my ideas come from some place higher and I am just the vessel for them. It literally changes from week to week.. I have no idea what I will be creating next week. So it’s literally whatever the Universe throws at me and what I am being called to do.. I just have to work with that and trust that EVEN THOUGH I FEEL LIKE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM DOING EVER… there is a reason that I have been chosen to share these projects with the world!
What is the most challenging thing about this project?
Oh well the lack of income is less than ideal haha.. But its also probably feeling like I am not old enough, qualified enough or knowledgable enough to be doing what I am doing. I come up with these membership programs and I’m like ‘ why the hell would anyone trust me to help them.. I have no idea what I’m doing’. It’s also hard doing it all by myself but having the interns write and share their incredible work has been amazing; not only for me but for my audience. Faith and trust in Spirit… always. It’s a test of faith and.. I’m here, healthy and happy. Everything has worked out so far in my 22 years, so why should the future be any different, right??
What is your favourite part of your job?
That there is nothing boring about it AT ALL. I love EVERY SINGLE THING I do. It’s also probably that I have discovered through my work that I no longer have to pick, choose or compromise anything, definitely. I love that I am kind of taking this whole new approach to things and that where we once thought we had to pick one thing or the other… I’m like “Nah, we can literally do it all”. This for me, this is all about closing gaps that we see in society today. Such as the gap present between social media/marketing and authenticity; that between spirituality and money; peoples perspectives on ’bad food’ and health and closing the gap between young girls parents and in social media. This is super important to me because I understand why parents don’t want their girls online, why these girls feel the need to be online and so I just want to create this space where everyone is comfortable and happy.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
There are so many things.. Im not even going to try and play that down haha.
Because I conditioned myself to believe I was kinda worthless from such a young age.. stepping into who I am now is a massive achievement and one that EVERYONE is capable of.
Im really proud of my messages I share, my honesty, all of my creations.
I’m not really sure. Im just happy to be me now and I’ve never experienced that before.
Do you have any advice for women wanting to enter this industry?
Just follow your passions and abundance will follow. If you are in your alignment (and you clearly are if you want to make positive changes on earth), then trust that as you step up, the Universe will provide everything you need at any given moment. I am living proof of this.
Dont half-arse anything.. because you will only get half-arsed results and just remember that you can have and create anything you want!
Who inspires you the most?
I am honestly surrounded by the most incredible people.
Peta Kelly is number 1, always. I owe my life to Kate Crozier. She has been my biggest mentor for the past few years. Sally Mustang blows my mind regularly. Anthea Paul, Elizabeth Siematkowski and Millie Thomas. She has dedicated her entire life to supporting girls with eating disorders after having anorexia for 15 years. I’ve never met anyone like her. She is a true super hero for so many girls, survivors and their families.
What motivates you to keep going?
Knowing that people really resonate with my content and that my way of speaking (ranting) and writing really digs up hidden emotions or insecurities that we all kind of refuse to face.
I love hearing that my creations and perspectives can and have changed peoples reality.
And obviously having all these crazy ideas drop in all the time.. I have no choice but to ride the wave and keep going.. even when I really REALLY don’t want to.
How do you create balance in your life?
Well we all know this stuff. Ive just gone through a really big transition and its been a rough few months… but now Im back on track and its the simple stuff, you know?
It’s making sure I exercise daily, I eat really well and do something creative as often as possible. Being outside is super important too. My house has this energy that just sucks me in so if I don’t get out first thing.. I don’t leave all day and then I get cabin fever haha. I believe there is so much freedom in discipline so really pushing myself to be the best I can be. Because when I’m doing this, it can be hard and sucky at times but the mental freedom that comes with it is amazing.
According to you, what is the definition of success?
When you can wake up at 4am and jump out of bed because life is just so epic and you just want to be apart of it. Having absolute gratitude and appreciation for everything you surround yourself with (remember that its all a choice) and when there isn’t a single part of your life that you say ‘ughhh’ about. I feel like I live in a movie most days and the world is just this giant playground.
What is your opinion on eco-friendly brands?
All for ‘em! Hopefully one day we will get to a place where we wont even need to say ‘eco-friendly’ because that will just be the new norm!
Best beauty advice/tip:
“If you wouldn’t put it in your mouth, why put it on your skin?’
But OIL PULLING… honestly. It’s the best for EVERYTHING EVER.
